Florida man faces multiple drug charges

On Behalf of | Apr 19, 2013 | Criminal Defense

A 22-year-old Florida man faces multiple criminal charges related to drugs. The resident of Palm Coast, Florida, was charged with cultivation of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and probation violation. The case is pending and additional criminal charges are possible.

The case developed after citizen tips prompted an investigation by the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office. Officers developed evidence over a one-month-long investigation, which is also under review by criminal defense attorneys. The Flagler County Sheriff said his agency often relies on citizen communications in identifying possible drug suspects and encourages private citizens to provide information about suspicious drug or criminal activity.

The suspect was taken into custody at his home by officers with the Special Investigation Unit, Sheriff’s SWAT unit and officers with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement. The suspect is being held on $6,000 bond on the violation of probation charges, and he may remain in custody until trial.

Anyone who stands accused of a crime is entitled to legal representation. This is not only a safeguard built into the United States Constitution; it is an important part of the American criminal court process. In Florida, attorneys may help defendants understand the processes that they may have to go through. In cases involving drugs, some attorneys may be able to negotiate the inclusion of drug treatment as part of the penalties and lower jail time. Criminal defense attorneys also may help to clarify defendants’ their rights and options and recommend courses of action so that the defendants have thorough understandings of their situations.
